Manifesting A Thistle

I’ve been manifesting since I was small. Back then, I didn’t know it was manifesting — I just assumed I had supernatural powers and was one dramatic motion away from summoning a dragon.

To me, manifesting is basically wanting something so intensely that the universe eventually caves in like, “Fine, take it, just stop staring at me like that.”

The golden rule? You keep it secret. Manifesting is a silent spell. You don’t announce it. You don’t whisper it. You hold it in your chest like a smug little secret that hums with cosmic sass.

When I was younger, I spent years fantasising about leaving home. I wanted adventure, chaos, questionable decisions — the full package. So the moment I turned 18, I packed my bags and ran like the wind, 250 miles away, and landed in a city where I knew absolutely no one. Not a soul. I was Emily in Paris but less glam. I was clueless, but I was confidently clueless, which is really all you need at 18.

Some people call that manifesting. Others might call it drive.

Anyway I digress.

Last year I’m walking the dogs around the estate where I live, minding my business, when I pass this one garden that looks like it’s been curated by a retired fairy godmother with too much time and a subscription to Gardener’s World.

There in the centre of the beautiful space is this enormous, majestic thistle. A thistle so fabulous it could’ve had its own fan club.

I think to myself — quietly, secretly, manifest‑style — I’d love a thistle in our garden.

I don’t tell anyone. I don’t Google it. I don’t even say it out loud. I just tuck it into my internal vault of cosmic requests.

Four weeks later, I roll out of bed, stretch like a cat, let the dogs out for their morning wee, and glance at our garden — the one that’s “fine” in the same way a lukewarm cup of tea is “fine.”

And then I see it.

A thistle.

A big, spiky, unapologetic thistle, standing there like it walked in uninvited with a knackered old kit bag and decided to stay.

Did I manifest it? Did a bird drop it? Did the universe finally give in to my nonsense?

I don’t know.

But here’s what I do know:

Some people manifest money. Some manifest love. Some manifest career success.

Me?

I manifested a thistle.

And honestly… that feels exactly right for Me.
